| The story begins with the sudden outbreak of a cordyceps-like infection that ravages the United States, which changes its human hosts into rabid, monstrous killers (AKA Zombies The infected are not zombies, they are very much alive.). In the twenty years that follow, much of civilization is destroyed by the infection with pockets of survivors living in either heavily-policed quarantine zones, independent settlements, or nomadic groups. On your journey to find weapons and ammunition, not only do you find allies (other role-players), but you also find a 14 year old girl named Ellie that was bit by a infected three weeks prior to when you found her, and is still alive and healthy. This leads you to believe that she may be the cure to the infection that has taken over the world. It is your mission to find your way to safety with the girl without being killed by the infected, or other survivors. Throughout the roleplay you will encounter many different types of enemies and factions. During the course of the game, you encounter two human factions, and the Infected. First, lets start with the infected. There are five different types of Infected. The Infected: - Spoiler:
Appearance: The Infected humans have since undergone a strange mutation by a specialized strain of Ophiocordyceps unilateralis. Over time, the host's facial and physical appearance changes from how typical people look prior to infection. The infection causes fungal growths that make their faces completely unrecognizable. At later stages, their body begins to bulge, and more fungi growths can be seen along their skin. Eventually, they die and become Spore producing Cadavers that grow into place. Their teeth are horribly rotten and jagged, likely due to the infected not feeling pain like normal humans despite still being "alive." Behavior: Upon becoming Infected, the victims eventually lose any ability to think and behave rationally as the fungus takes over their minds. Relying on basal instincts and frantic behavior, the Infected will attempt to throttle any uninfected person they find. The victim will be infected through small bite wounds in order to spread the fungus. The dead do not get infected. The Runners retain a sense of emotion and thought. They're aware that what they are doing is harmful, but due to the mentally deteriorating symptoms of the fungus, their minds are slowly becoming worse. The Runner stage begins within two days of infection. The fungus continues growing, gradually making the infected blind and turning them into Clickers, which takes over 12 months. The oldest infected developed echolocation by natural selection. The Infected have a variety of ways to spread the fungus. Through bite wounds, or simply coughing out spores into the victims breathing area. Eventually, after many years of scavenging, the Infected die (either through starvation, injury, or natural causes) in a closed off space so the fungus can spread further. This usually happens during the Clicker stage, though Runners and Stalkers have an equal chance if they're injured by survivors. Bloaters are Clickers that, due to increased fungal growth, are able to survive long enough to infect more organisms before being overtaken by the fungus completely. The Infected, while having a higher pain tolerance than ordinary humans, still have a vulnerability to injury. A Runner, while not attacking survivors, will moan in pain due to the fungal growth deforming its body. Clickers will occasionally struggle while being shived or strangled, showing extreme sensory awareness. Gunshots are capable of startling an Infected individual, so it's likely they feel fear just as any ordinary person would. Let's look at the Infected individually. Runners: - Spoiler:
Runners are the first stage of the Infected who have recently entered their transformation. Since the eyes are first targeted by the fungus, runners have poor eyesight, but maintain many human instincts. For example, their moans are still human, just like their overall appearance, making them more "disturbing" to kill than a fully transformed infected. However, a way to tell them apart from normal survivors is their usually glowing eyes. Their body language is sluggish while they are passive and makes it seem as if they are trying to resist the fungus. Sometimes they do not attack at all, even when right in front of them. These non-aggressive runners will only attack if attacked first or when an object is thrown at or near them, thus losing control. This is described to be like a "sneeze" like the developers say in a demo, where the host will find it hard to control when a sneeze will occur at any moment and when you are about to sneeze, it is hard to stop from letting the sneeze go through. Runners are confirmed to be able to attack in packs.
Stalkers: - Spoiler:
Stalkers are the second stage of the Infected that have characteristics of both Runners and Clickers, mixed in the form of a hybrid. They are fast, can run and can see you like runners while looking and sounding as sinister in comparison to third stage clickers with the fungus just starting to sprout but attack similarly like Runners with flailing arms and in packs. The most notable trait that defines the "Stalkers" is the croaking sound they make, and that they seem to have some use of intelligence or discretion when chasing a victim, where they will strafe cover to cover, eventually closing in on the victim rather than stage 1 and 3 infected who mindlessly charge at the victim from instinct, hence the name "stalker". Stage 2 may take place anywhere between a few days after the start of the infection (Stage 1) and up to a year (Stage 3).
Clickers: - Spoiler:
Clickers are the third stage of the Infected that have had prolonged exposure to the fungus. They are completely blind, but maneuver through their area by using a clicking sound that will allow them to "see" obstacles and other characters (this is known as echolocation, like bats). They appear much less human than Runners, with faces that are skewed and scarred by fungus growing out of their infected brains, out their eye sockets and over/around the head. They are also much more aggressive than Runners, and do not resist the fungus anymore because their humanity is now completely destroyed. They always attack on smell or sound. Clickers can kill the player instantly if one grabs on to them. However, this is likely due to the possibility of an infectious bite, but if the player has the supplements needed for Shiv Master, the player can stab the Clicker in the neck with their shiv before it bites them. Clickers cannot be countered with a shiv when being bitten from behind. It is fairly easy to run away from Clickers as long as you do not run into them as Clickers only walk quickly to their destination and because of them being blind, the player can dive into cover far away or be far enough not to be tracked by sound, because of this the clickers will lose track of people when too far away and try to click in all directions. When a Clicker is provoked, the Clicker will enter a "berserk mode," aggressively flailing their arms. At this point, if a victim is caught in their arms, they will have a death grip and be able to feed on the victim if they do not have a shiv or are not helped by another survivor. There is no melee move to override this attack and the clicker will not flinch when shot with non-shotgun rounds if not aiming for the head. To counter this move, it is advised to keep good distance and wait for the Clicker to wear out, then try to hit it before it does another berserk. Alternatively, Clickers can be stunned by throwing a brick or bottle, making it vulnerable for a few seconds to the player to run at it and attack with a melee weapon.
Bloaters: - Spoiler:
Bloaters are the fourth stage of the Infected that is covered in thick fungus that effectively doubles as protective covering. It's mainly called a Bloater due to its long survival rate and fungus that makes them puffy. Because of the protective covering, they are the only things that can withstand multiple blows with sharp weapons like machetes and hatchets. They are extremely hard to kill, and very erratic, but slow and lumbering. Like Clickers, they use echolocation to locate enemies, the fungus having completely deformed their face. If a bloater catches Joel, he will be killed instantly by ripping his face apart through brute strength. While the bloater does this, it will emit a loud, low war screech, showing its sheer power. Bloaters also toss balls of spores that disperse on contact in an area of effect. If Joel were to be hit or remain near the spores, his health can be damaged largely over time. The spores the bloaters project oddly does not infect survivors like Joel, even when not wearing a mask. Their true weakness is fire, much like the other infected. When set ablaze a bloater will wildly thrash around trying to put out the flames as if in pain while all other projectiles hardly make it flinch. Even though they are weak against fire, fire based weapons such as the flamethrower or the Molotov cocktail require multiple attacks before killing a bloater. Two molotovs, or two-three consecutive bursts of the flamethrower are required to down a bloater. Once on fire, the bloaters will be charred black and smoke will arise from its body. Some small flames may still be found on the bloater. Once the bloater is charred black, it loses the ability to throw infectious spores and also has its armor charred brittle making them vulnerable to low caliber rounds which would only take about two or three shots in its weakened state. The bloater will then try to lumber to the player and grab them.
Cadavers: - Spoiler:
A Spore Cadaver is the fifth and final stage of the Infected. This stage takes place when a Clicker/Bloater feels it is close to death. It will search to find a dark corner where it will die, and then the fungus grafts it to the environment. When the body dies, it becomes skeletal and brittle, but the fungus continues to grow. At this stage, the fungus is capable of releasing infectious spores. Infected cadavers have become a regular inconvenience for survivors trying to avoid infection, primarily because Infected die in attics and basements that haven't been looked through by the owners. Runners and Stalkers can also become cadavers for the Infection, if they sustain too much bodily harm to be a direct threat, i.e. destruction of the brain, loss of limb, paralysis, but are still hosts of the fungus and thus emit spores in death.
The Infected aren't the only dangerous things lurking about. There are also those trying to survive. Throughout the roleplay, it is likely you will encounter two different types of survivors: The Fireflies and the Hunters. Fireflies: - Spoiler:
The Fireflies are an anti-goverment militia group featured in The Last of Us. They are fighting a losing war against the military whom they view as tyrants. The Fireflies are one of the few organized groups still searching for a vaccine for the cordyceps infection. Marlene is the leader of the Fireflies and the one who hires Joel and Tess to deliver Ellie to their research facility so that they can be able to create a vaccine for the infection. They are spread throughout the country but their main base is located in Salt Lake City in an abandoned hospital.
Hunters: - Spoiler:
The Hunters are a faction of survivors who appear in The Last of Us. They reside in Pittsburgh and are hostile towards Joel and Ellie. After the fall of the government, the people of Pittsburgh rebelled against martial law. The remaining survivors of the city formed the Hunters. The Hunters have with them a large arsenal of weaponry, including a military Humvee. They have also resorted to cannibalism as a result of lack of food.

| Name: Ellie Gender: Female Age: 14 Weapon: Switchblade, then later in the RP: Bow and arrow, hunting rifle, 9mm Background/Bio: Ellie was born sometime in the year 2019, six years after the spread of the fungal pandemic. As a result, she grew up in an oppressive military quarantine zone in Boston, Massachusetts with little knowledge of the world prior to the infection For a time she was raised by her mother, Anna, until she died. The fireflies took Ellie as their own ever since then. Personality: Having been raised in an environment where modern standards and values have deteriorated, Ellie is considerably rash, impulsive, and temperamental, and doesn't faze at the notion of using violence as a means to an end or vulgarity as a way of expressing how she feels. However, she manages to maintain a particular innocence as she has yet to see the darkest sides of human nature and retains a palpable trust in people. In addition, Ellie is also perceptibly clever and witty, and will do whatever it takes to keep herself alive. | Name: RelicGender: MaleAge: 42Weapon: Assault Shotgun "13 shells, 8 loaded 5 in ammo pack", Handgun "can hold 15, only has 3 left", 6 grenade shells "lost his grenade launcher", 2 grenades. Later in the RP: Grenade Launcher and Custom Flamethrower.Background/Bio: Relic (Henry Nashton) has gained his nickname from the many people who believe the military is done and special forces have no need in this current world. With both Hunters and Fireflies in larger numbers and slowly removing all forms of military countryside, Relic continues the uphill struggle of following his orders. Orders which are sadly coming to an end since his last living member of his unit, his commander passed away from a fight against a large group of Fireflies. Sadly Relic was never read into the mission, currently he feels like a man without a reason to continue. Until he finds it, he walks the streets cleansing it in the way he seems fit. A path of death and burned bodies follows him wherever he goes. He is known as being a guy to seek when in need of things being done that are too dangerous for others. He is also known as a guy who will put down small units of Hunters and Fireflies who dare challenge him. Wanted posters have been seen in policed zones showing Relic executing humans and warnings for citizens to report any spotting of this man.Personality: On the outside Relic will stare at you while you talk, bringing uncomfortable silences that make you think he will shoot you at any second. Under the mask Relic will gladly throw himself into gunfire to save someone he cares for. Currently he has no ambition and goes about his business of equipping and repairing his gear.Appearance: He always wears his heavy demolition outfit, which is reinforced with kevlar and plates, due to this immense weight he cannot maintain fast movement for long and has problems with small places. | |

| Name: Jennifer (Jen) Gender: female Age: 28 Weapon: her father's pistol and brother's old dagger carried at her hip, whatever is at hand Background/Bio: Raised in a middle class family, she understood early on one must work hard to survive in the world. It wasn't until a month before her ninth birthday did she learn that for her, that phrase would be much more literal. She spent most of her time with her older brother Darren (then age 12) and their childhood neighbor Jordan (then age 10). During the pandemic, the kids were separated from the parents. Upon making their way back into the house, they found their parents dead, shot and killed in the living room. Jen's brother grabbing their father's shotgun and Jen took his pistol from the basement; the trio decided to stay together and left. After about 12 years, Darren's luck ran out and got killed in an attack from the hunters. His final wishes were for Jordan and Jen to continue to fight for survival as he gave Jordan the shotgun and his sister his favorite dagger from his childhood. Jordan was infected 3 years later. Jen has been traveling on her own since. Personality: A woman turned cold since her solitude starting five years prior. The infection has toughened her up to a point of rash, rude, and harshness, yet she carries inside a warmth from memory of her early childhood. She hopes for different existence. Appearance: medium built, red-brown hair worn in a pony tail, green eyes, faded tee, cargo pants, hiking boots. | |
