This is a segment where I will be reviewing different pokemon as far as competitive battling goes. I will be basing off how good they are in five different categories.

Stats

abilities

moves

type/strengths

weaknesses

Tyranitar review:pokemon reviews Tyranitar

first appearance: Gen 2 gold/silver

thoughts before review: Tyranitar is gen 2's  pseudo legendary and is considered to be one of the best pokemon ever. You could say hes basically Dragonites counterpart. Now Tyranitar holds a lot of nostalgic value for me. Hes not my favorite pseudo legendary in fact far from it but I still like him however. His stats are amazing and now thanks to his new mega evolution as of gen 6, he is
now even better at battling.

stats: Tyranitar's  best stats is his attack, defense, special defense, and hp stat (mostly attack though.) His special attack is pretty good though but preferably I recommend not wasting his/her potential on special attack. His speed sucks but he more than well makes up for it with his defensive stats. His mega evolution also increases everything else but his special attack.

abilities: Tyranitar has two different abilities. sandstream and unnerve. His mega evolution however has sandstream. Both of these abilities are pretty much mediocre. In fact I wouldn't even waste my time if I were you trying to get his hidden ability unnerve just keep sandstream.

Moves: Tyranitar can learn a lot of moves. I recommend a full on physical moveset (though if you want to make Tyranitar into a special sweeper or a tank is perfectly up to you.) Heres a physical moveset I recommend for Tyranitar: Stone edge/rockslide: stone edge if you want full on power and high critical hit ratio or rockslide for better accuracy and chance to flinch opponent, crunch/assurance/payback(I prefer crunch personally): Crunch for having a chance to lower  defense, assurance for doing double damage if your opponents pokemon already took damage this turn before. Which works well with tyranitars low speed, or payback which doubles in power if the opponent attack Tyranitar first no matter what move. Which again works well with Tyranitars low speed, Earthquake: Cmon everyone knows you gotta teach any pokemon in general earthquake duh!!! does massive damage and deals with those pesky steel types, what other move you wanna give it is entirely up to you though here are some suggestions: Iron head: Deals with fairy types and does decently good damage and chance for flinch, Iron tail: Does more damage than iron head but less accuracy and  chance to lower defense, Dragon dance: Will raise both attack and speed by one stage. I think its awesome the fact this slow pokemon can learn dragon dance. Definitely a good choice for him/her, power-up punch: does mediocre damage but increases attack by one stage again good coverage against steel types, brick break: even more coverage against steel types and will break barriers, giga impact: Does a huge amount of damage and is the physical attack equivalent to hyper beam. Pokemon Must recharge after use however, Aerial ace: does decent damage and never misses. Coverage against bug, fighting and grass types (though you can already teach him a rock type move to counter bug types.), outrage: Inflicts massive damage however it will lock you into this move upon use for a couple turns and the pokemon who uses it will become confused.

Type/strengths: Tyranitar is a rock and dark type pokemon. Tyranitar does have some advantage over a few pokemon such as: fire types,  Ice types, Normal types,  psychic types, and flying types.

weaknesses: Unfortunately Tyranitars type is his/her biggest disadvantage. Being a rock and dark type  means Tyranitar has a total of 8 different weaknesses. Including a 4x weakness to fighting types. If it weren't for Tyranitars typing I wouyld consider tyranitar to be the best pseudo out there competitive battling wise but unfortunately because of these weaknesses tyranitar fails to be a perfect pokemon.

pros and cons:

Pros: Awesome attack, good defensive stats, great movepool, and has a mega evolution.

cons:  mediocre abilitys and too many weaknesses.

Overall score:8/10

Final verdict and conclusion: Tyranitar is a monster stat-wise and is even better thanks to his mega evolution and his diverse movepool but Tyranitar lacks any good or decent abilities and his many weaknesses give him a huge disadvantage over alot of pokemon out there.

My main point of disagreement with this is saying that Sand Stream is not a decent ability. It's a fantastic ability. It enables two entire playstyles in Sand Offense and Sand Stall, and makes Tyranitar into a legitimate choice for a team supporter rather than an offensive Pokemon on top of giving it and other Rock-types a massive Special Defense boost for as long as it is active. True, it's nerfed now that it only lasts 5 turns, but it's still a damn good ability that should not be discounted.

Also, T-tar really has too many counters (and no way to deal with Fighting-types effectively) for it to rate an 8.5 to me. I'd give it about a 7.5, tbh. It's still pretty good, but it has massive glaring weaknesses that sometimes overbalance its considerable strengths. Its low speed is also an issue. Yes, you can somewhat remedy that with Dragon Dance or a Choice Scarf, but even with that, the fastest Pokemon it can outspeed is Starmie and other Base 115's. Other Dragon Dancers often make a mockery of DD Tyranitar, Choice Scarf abusers can easily pick off weakened variants, and it has absolutely zero defensive capability against the more common Priority moves. Also, unlike other physical-based setup abusers like Dragonite, Talonflame, Scizor, and Salamence, Tyranitar has no reliable recovery or priority moves to give it an extra edge. So yes, it is decent, but it has next to nothing that sets it apart aside from being able to hit slightly harder, which is already compensated for by the fact that you can stack boosts from setup moves.

I actually don't mind Tyranitar being slow. As long as a pokemon can take a hit I can care less how slow it is although being fast would give Tyranitar a huge advantage. I never really cared for sand stream honestly Its a decent ability at best in my personal opinion. I never saw the point in sand stream unless you were building a sandstream team that can use the advantage of the ability. Perhaps an 8/10 is a more accurate score for Tyranitar. 8.5 is being a little too easy on him.

wobbuffet review:pokemon reviews Wobbuffet

first appearance: gen 2 Gold/Silver

Thoughts before review: What if I were to tell you this derpy looking pokemon is actually one pokemon you do not wanna battle with. Ill tell you why in this review if you haven't already figured it out.

stats: Wobbuffets best stat is his hp stat everything else about him sucks. "What!? How can this pokemon possibly be deadly than?!" Ill tell you once we get to the moveset part.

abilities: his regular ability is shadow tag which is in my opinion an amazing ability but his hidden ability  kinda doesn't go well with his strategy.. My suggestion is to keep his original ability.

Moveset: Finnally we get to the best part of the review. Now Wobbuffet can only learn 5 moves. Counter, mirror coat, destiny bond, encore, and safeguard. "what only 5 moves?! Wow your just proving my point even further that this pokemon sucks!" Now now typical average Wobbuffet hater who doesn't know Wobbuffets true potential, allow to elaborate  just how deadly this derpy troll really is. Now the whole strategy of Wobbuffet is to wait for the opponent to strike so Wobbuffet can strike back at the opponent twice as hard. For example lets say you used night slash with Absol on my Wobbuffet but after Wobbuffet took the damage he used counter. I guarantee your Absol would be ohkoed no doubt about it. He also has mirror coat to counter special attacks. "Oh yeah well I can just use U-turn or volt switch to inflict damage to your Wobbuffet and switch out so my pokemon doesn't take damage and your move will fail!!" Oh silly little Wobbuffet despiser have you learned nothing from what I told you previously. Your pokemon cant switch out. Remember that most Wobbuffets have the ability shadow tag which prevents escape. So sorry but as much as you want to scout you cant! "Oh yeah well I can just use toxic or will o wisp or just put him to sleep to inflict a status condition or so he will slowly faint or I can kill him while hes sleeping. So checkmate Wobbuffet fanboy!" Umm didn't you hear? Wobbuffet can learn safeguard which prevents status conditions for up to five turns. Besides remember most Wobbuffets learn destiny bond which means if Wobbuffet faints so does your pokemon. So you would be paying a price if you killed him. "Well uhhhhh what If I just trick you so you use counter but instead I use a special move so that way It would be a guessing game to you." *facepalm* stupid average Wobbuffet hater remember that Wobbuffet can learn encore which makes your opponent repeat the same move it did before. that way wobbuffet can use the right move  so that way its no longer a guessing game. "uhhhh but what if uhhhhhh" although putting him to sleep would be a good strategy to take down wobbuffet as safeguard and destiny bond don't have priority. So I suppose putting Wobbuffet to sleep would be his worst weakness! "Ha checkmate Wobbuffet fanboy!" But thats  his only weakness hes pretty much an unstoppable  force to be reckoned with.

type/strengths: Wobbuffet is a psychic type but he cant really learn any psychic type moves besides mirror coat. this means he isnt super effective against any pokemon. So its pointless to talk about his strengths and advantages over other pokemon types.

Weaknesses: Ironically Wobbuffets weaknesses can be used to his/her advantage. More damage = more likely to ohko. Wobbuffets has a total of 3 weaknesses due to him/her being a psychic type. Bug, Dark, and ghost.

Pros and cons:

Pros: Amazing hp, outstanding strategic way of fainting pokemon, good moves to support wobbuffets strategy,  good ability(s), and weaknesses can be used to Wobbuffets advantage.

cons: Putting a wobbuffet to sleep is easily  wobbuffets weakness due to his low speed and no priority and Easily predictable moveset.

Overall score: 6.5/10

Final verdict and conclusion: Wobbuffet is an almost unstoppable beast. With almost no disadvantages. he can easily learn moves to counter some of his other disadvantages I guarantee you if more people knew about wobbuffets potential this guy would be used by many.

Update:so according to Eon and bulbapedia pokemon can in fact use volt switch, U-turn, or baton pass even with shadow tag. Also I was wrong about safeguard I believe it only last for 3 turns now. I forgot to mention also counter doesn't work on ghost types so physical attackers like Golurk and Aegislash would be able to take down wobbuffet no problem. I wanted to apologize for the lack of research and information. I Understand I screwed up just Like the Okami review and yes this ones also my fault I promise I will do more research next time.  Unfortunately I lowered Wobbuffets score but oh well.

I really have a dislike for Wobbuffet, it is just an annoying Pokemon to battle. With Shadow Tag, I can't switch out into a better Pokemon, and then comes the most evil move in all of existence - Mirror Coat. This Pokemon eats up an attack to yellow HP, then uses Mirror Coat to one-shot everything. However, I don't hate Wobbuffet as much as Mega Mewtwo, my least favorite Pokemon to date. Yes, it's even over Trubbish.

You better run when you see a Wobbuffet!

Good review Super! Very Happy

*sigh*

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shadow_Tag_(Ability)

Please do your homework before you make claims. Shadow Tag does not prevent Volt Switch, U-Turn, or Baton Pass from working. Also, it doesn't work on Ghost-types. At all. And since many competitive teams carry Ghost-types to block Rapid Spin, they'll commonly be around as an answer to Wobbuffet. In addition, Ghost-types are immune to Counter, meaning that any physical-based Ghost-type like Golurk or Spiritomb can just run roughshod over Wobbuffet. Also, Encore is heavily nerfed since Gen 5, as it now only lasts 3 turns.

Basically, Wobbuffet is nowhere near as dangerous as you make it out to be. Yes, it can be a serious threat if you get it in under the right conditions, but thanks to team preview, you will always know that it's there, and can play around it. Wobbuffet hasn't been anywhere near as strong as you describe since Gen 3.

Really? I always thought shadow tag prevented escape no matter what? Than again I never really used wobbuffet against someone who had volt switch or U-turn. Perhaps I should've looked into that. Yeah I wasn't really thinking about ghost types during the time I wrote the review. Yes your right I probably should've looked into it more before typing away carelessly forgive me.

I find it to be a threat because I lack in competitive and hardly have Pokemon with those moves. So, it is a threat to me when I battle.

Wobbuffet isn't dangerous? I'm sorry but I've had too many times where I'm expecting a Torchic or something similar to pop out and my Uppercut of a sword strike would be deflected by a Wobbuffet's counter and would throw me off the stage!! You know how many matches I've lost because of that?!

Note that he specifically says he's rating these for competitive value. In pure competitive, Wobbuffet is fairly tame as far as threats go.

Goodra review: pokemon reviews Goodra

first appearance: gen 6/ X and Y

thoughts before review: OK Im going to be honest here I am not really a huge fan of Goodra in fact I use to hate Goodra a lot when x and y first came out. Not only was I disappointed with its design I was also disappointed with its stats and its only dragon typing. I was expecting a dragon and fairy type pokemon and in my opinion that would have been awesome. Ok I don't mean to offend Goodra fans but compared to all the other pseudo legendries Goodra is an absolute joke. Not only is it pathetic compared to them stat wise but its pathetic compared to them design wise.

stats: Goodra's best stats are its Special defense, attack, and special attack. He is mainly a special defensive tank that can can take special damage like its nothing however I will be the first to admit that Goodra is good as a mixed attacker. Both his/her attack and special attack are good and almost equal to eachother so I personally prefer Goodra as a mixed sweeper I applaud Goodra for being different than the other psuedo's as far as that goes. Unfortunately when it comes to its speed and defensive stats they are mediocre. The problem I have with goodra is that he/she cant take physical attack damage. Which means physical ice types like, Mamoswine, Abomasnow, and Beartic will easily take it out without effort. Not to mention physical dragon types like, Dragonite, salamence, Garchomp, Flygon, and Tyrantrum will take it down effortlessly as well. Luckily the fairy type doesn't have any physical attacks so Goodra is safe when it comes to them.

abilities: Goodra has Hydration, sap sipper, and gooey. Sap sipper is useless considering the fact grass types aren't very effective on dragon types so I dont think anyone would use a grass type move. Hydration and gooey on the other hand are both great abilities for goodra. I personally prefer his hidden ability gooey which if hit on contact it lowers the foe's speed which works perfectly for that mediocre speed of his/hers. Hydration heals status problems when raining so yeah definetly a good ability especially for a rain dance team.

Moves: Ok so by looking at a lot of goodra's moves you can tell this pokemon has a wide variety of moves to choose from but one problem.....One freaking problem that ruins everything!! One move that this pokemon cannot learn that would go well with its mediocre speed!! It cant learn freaking dragon dance!! WTF?! Now ladies and gentleman let me ask you something. Have you ever heard of a dragon type that couldn't learn dragon dance?! NO you haven't? Well now you have introducing Goodra!! Why though?! Dragon dance would have been perfect for Goodra!! This ticks me off on so many freaking levels. Anyways I recommend a mix of both physical and special attack but Ill have a list of some movesets for Goodra. Mixed sweeper Goodra: Outrage/dragon pulse: a powerful 120 base attack that makes you confused later or a special attack at 85 base attack power you decide, Flamethrower/Fire blast: lower base attack power with 100 accuracy or higher attack power with lower accuracy hmm decisions and coverage against ice types, Sludgebomb/sludgewave: Sludgewave does slightly higher damage but lower chance of poisoning the target while sludgebomb has slightly lower base attack damage but higher chance to poison also coverage against fairy types, any other move: What the last move you wanna give Goodra is entirely up to you as far as this moveset goes but I would give it a physical attack as it last move. Heres a physical moveset for Goodra: Outrage, aqua tail, power whip, draco meteor/any move you wanna give it: if you want you can give it draco meteor since it wont have any use for its special attack anyways or give it any other physical move. Finnally heres a special attacking Goodra: Dragon pulse, Flamethrower/Fire blast, sludge bomb/sludge wave, Ice beam/ Thunderbolt.

type/strengths: goodra is a pure dragon type nothing more and nothing less. Unfortunately due to him being only a dragontype Goodra has no strengths over any pokemon however it does have pokemon that aren't very effective against it such as: fire types, electric types, grass types, and water types. I was expecting Goodra to be a fairy type also and I atleast wanted to it to have a secondary type just like all pseudo legendaries but unfortunately Goodra is only a dragon type making it have no strengths against any pokemon.

weaknesses: Goodra has a total of 2 (technically 3 if you include its own type) weaknesses. Fairy and ice. Also it is not very effective against steel types.

Pros and cons:

Pros: awesome special defense, balanced attack and special attacking sweeper, good abilitys, amazing move pool.

cons: awful defense leaves Goodra at a huge disadvantage over most physical sweepers, mediocre speed, cant learn dragon dance (I know this is a minor nitpick but Im pretty sure you understand why.), its typing sucks

overall score:7/10

Final verdict and conclusion: For the most part Goodra is ok its no where near the level of awesome compared to its predecessors as pseudo legendries go but its still good nonetheless. off topic While its design is lazy as well I admit the pokemon is kind of cute.
